The Ambush on the Creature Commandos was a sneak attack planned by Amethyst Knights on the Creature Commandos after discovering that they had arrived in Pokolistan on orders to kill the Princess Ilana Rostovic.

Background[]

After her capture, Circe revealed to Amanda Waller a vision of an apocalyptic future in which Ilana Rostovic would conquer the world with her army, eliminating any hero who opposed her. Seeking confirmation of the witch's clairvoyant abilities, Waller consulted college professor Aisla MacPherson. Once MacPherson seemingly validated Circe's powers, Waller ordered the Creature Commandos to return to Pokolistan to assassinate the princess. However, Rick Flag, Sr., doubtful of the vision and enamored with Ilana, stepped down from his role as leader, prompting Waller to appoint Bride as the new field leader. Bride, along with Doctor Phosphorus, Weasel, and Nina Mazursky, boarded the Sheba for the flight back to Pokolistan.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted by Alexi, who was surprised to see them return. Bride explained their presence by claiming there was an imminent threat targeting the princess but refused to provide further details, arousing Alexi's suspicions.

Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Flag uncovered that Professor MacPherson was an impostor collaborating with Circe. He called Ilana Rostovic, warning her about the Commandos' mission to assassinate her.

En route to Poko Castle, Alexi received intelligence about the Commandos' true objective. Feigning nonchalance, he diverted the convoy to an isolated part of the city under the pretense of taking a shortcut, raising the Commandos' suspicions.[2]

Ambush[]

Alexi stopped the vehicle in the middle of an empty street, where military vehicles and Amethyst Knights soon appeared, surrounding the Commandos. Explaining that he couldn’t allow them to assassinate the princess, Alexi was abruptly killed by Doctor Phosphorus, who punched a hole through his head, triggering a chaotic gunfight with the Pokolistani forces.[2]

As Bride and Phosphorus engaged the enemy, Nina and Weasel took the opportunity to flee and hide. Bride gunned down several Amethyst Knights but eventually ran out of ammunition. Forced to improvise, she leaped onto one of the flying Knights, killed him, and took his gauntlets. Using them, she eliminated several surrounding airborne enemies and helicopters. Meanwhile, Doctor Phosphorus unleashed his full power, cutting a moving tank in half and obliterating it.

As reinforcements continued to arrive, the Commandos split up, each escaping in a different direction to evade capture.[2]

Aftermath[]

Ilana Rostovic was immediately informed of the Commandos' escape and declared them fugitives, ordering their elimination. Separated and lost in the city, Bride eventually reunited with Nina, and the two sought refuge in a brothel. While there, they saved the workers from two abusive metahuman clients.

Doctor Phosphorus, meanwhile, broke into a house to take shelter for the night, where he encountered and befriended a young girl. Her innocence and demeanor reminded him of his deceased child. After spending some time with her, he departed the house and set out for Poko Castle.

Weasel found solace in the forest, joining a pack of wolves. However, after dreaming about the little girl he failed to save at Sunnyhill School—and believing her to be the same person as Princess Rostovic—he decided to leave his newfound friends and head for the castle.

Eventually, the four members of the Commandos reunited on their journey to Poko Castle, determined to complete their mission.[2]
