The Attack on Fennel Fields was an attack carried out by Vigilante to prevent Donna Omicidio and Scarapelli from transforming citizens and millionaires into robots for the Controller.

Scarapelli invites Withers to attend the catering dinner
Major investors from across the county were gathering for a high-profile catering event at Fennel Fields, orchestrated by Scarapelli in hopes of securing funding for his film from Evergreen’s cultural elite. Fennel Fields employeers were instructed to arrive early in scrubs to prepare for the evening’s festivities, however, Adrian Chase wasn't registered or informed about the event. Following the attack on Evergreen Docks, Scarapelli confided in Withers about the dinner, inviting her to attend, reasoning that if Vigilante planned to strike again, he would have to go through all of Evergreen's cultural elite, which she accepted.
Meanwhile, despite being stabbed during the confrontation at Evergreen Docks, Vigilante survived and stumbled to Fennel Fields to disinfect his wounds. After falling asleep in the bathroom, Chase was found by Taylor and woken up by his co-workers. When Chase asked Theresa why everyone was there so early, she explained the importance of the investors’ event, but he became concerned that the Controller planned to turn them all into cyborgs, convincing himself to stop the meeting.[1]

Vigilante ambushes Scarapelli's catering event

After Adrian Chase cleaned his Vigilante Suit, the catering event started once all the investors had arrived. As waitresses served the banquet, Scarapelli opened the meeting—not only to discuss the film project but also to announce his retirement from the mafia. However, the event took a violent turn when Vigilante suddenly crashed in, hurling a bodyguard out a window and accusing Scarapelli of secretly working with the Controller to convert the investors into machines like himself, while Theresa found Vigilante’s voice oddly familiar. Meanwhile, Withers became upset upon learning from her guardian that Saber and Cannon were being distracted in a back alley near the dumpsters.
Vigilante fired up his chainsaw, vowing to find Peacemaker before succumbing to the Controller, but Withers suddenly lunged at him to stab him, with Vigilante recognizing her as Donna Omicidio, but she, deeply frustrated, expressed her displeasure with Vigilante and the fact that she had to kill them herself. After punching him in the face, she asked him who told him about the robots in Evergreen, and he revealed that it was one of his henchmen who had uttered "Con-Con" with his dying breaths, finding out he was referring to the Controller.

As the fight escalated, Vigilante pointed out that he survived Cannon's stab, but Withers kicked him against an X-ray booth, saying she stabbed herself regularly, and then slammed him into then booth to prove that neither of them were robots, before she pushed him to the ground and Scarapelli hit him with a plate cover. As Vigilante lay stunned, Withers prepared to gouge out his eye with a stiletto heel, but Scarapelli stopped her, not wanting her to get dirty. Saber and Cannon then finally arrived, but with the Evergreen Police Department closing in, they were all forced to flee the scene.[1]

Vigilante grabs a condom from the ground

Upon awakening, Vigilante saw Theresa and asked her what had happened, with her warning him about the police, helping him to escape by taking him to the back alley to go unnoticed. Vigilante asked her who he sounded familiar to, and she replied “Batman” before closing the door behind him. Relieved that his secret identity was still safe—and reassured that he wasn’t a killer robot after all—Vigilante dismissed the Controller as a misunderstanding, but he remained uneasy knowing Scarapelli and Withers had escaped. As he pondered the words “Con-Con,” and since Cannon and Saber had passed by, Vigilante grabbed a condom off the floor, seeing it as a possible clue.
The events prompted Chase to write a journal entry about tips on how to tell if he was a robot: He advised heroes to always be on alert, question everything and think outside the box. Vigilante's tips included: taking a captcha test, proving that Bluetooth couldn't reproduce thoughts, triple-checking that there were no antennas under the skin, trying to enter a room and forget what to do, and making sure not to hate: sarcasm or subtext.[1]
Adrian Chase discovers Saber and Cannon's secret love affair through a condom
Taking Withers and Scarapelli off guard, Cannon and Saber kidnapped their leaders to a factory, where they tied them to a chair to usurp their power, seeking to torture them into handing over their rightful assets. Adrian Chase loaded all his household goods into his Vig-Mobile to escape, where he realized the deception of Cannon and Saber, who had manipulated him to kill their mob bosses under the Controller's deception, and upon smelling the condom, he identified the brand, driving to the factory, certain that Cannon and Saber were there.[2]
