Informed of the Bride of Frankenstein's return, Eric Frankenstein resumed his chase of her, hiring a military helicopter to monitor her at the Belle Reve Correctional Center. From a distance, Frankenstein noticed the friendly interaction between the Bride and General Rick Flag Sr., which filled him with jealousy, supposing that the two held romantic feelings for each other due to Flag's attractiveness. Overhearing a soldier's taunt, Frankenstein unleashed his wrath on them, murdering them and crashing the helicopter into the ground. Frankenstein escaped the explosion unharmed, using a marker to write Flag's name on his hand and murder him to keep him away from the Bride.[3]

After A.R.G.U.S. Director Amanda Waller sent the Creature Commandos to assassinate Princess Ilana Rostovic and prevent an apocalyptic future prophesied by the sorceress Circe, Rick Flag Sr. set out to contact the guards of Poko Castle without success, so he returned home to gear up and tried to open the door with his keys. Just then, Eric Frankenstein crashed a taxi into a tree, much to Flag's surprise, and quickly lunged at it, destroying the door. Frankenstein grabbed Flag and slammed him against the wall, declaring that the Bride would never love him before throwing him into a trophy case. In defense, Flag got up and shot Frankenstein, who resisted his shots, managing to hold his arm until Flag kicked him in the groin. When Flag ran out of bullets, Frankenstein took the opportunity to swing him and throw him towards the kitchen, where Flag was able to dodge his attacks.

Flag managed to climb onto Frankenstein's back, taking the opportunity to reload his gun and using it to threaten to shoot him in the eye, causing Frankenstein to throw a tantrum, beginning to cry hysterically upon hearing that he attacked him for no reason. Sobbing, Frankenstein claimed that the Bride would never love him, causing Flag to misinterpret that he meant Rostovic. Realizing that Frankenstein was talking about the Bride, Flag made it clear that the two had no romantic feelings for each other, despite Frankenstein mentioning that the Bride was everyone's type, including Flag, who, flattered, emphasized that he had no feelings for the Bride. Flag offered Frankenstein a peaceful conversation, a request he accepted and let him climb off his back, with the General inviting him to have a cup of tea in the kitchen.[3]

"How is this helping me to get to my Bride?"
"It's a trade-off. You help me help the Princess. I help you with the Bride."

After clearing up their misunderstanding, Rick Flag Sr. confided in Eric Frankenstein about his feelings for Princess Ilana Rostovic, expressing concern over her possible murder at the hands of the Creature Commandos, refusing to believe Circe's visions. Motivated by Flag and Rostovic's history, Frankenstein commented on their respective relationships, including with the Bride of Frankenstein, with references to romantic films. Noting Frankenstein's crush on the Bride, Flag offered him an alliance to help each other, much to Frankenstein's delight, who promptly made him his best friend.[3] As part of their deal, Flag promised Frankenstein help with the Bride and a hero status, in exchange for investigating "Aisla MacPherson's" professionalism and preventing Rostovic's murder.[3]
