Biography[]
Early Life[]
Freedom Project[]
- "I thought he killed twenty seven children."
"He was accused of."
"And convicted."
"And unfairly convicted of killing eight children, not twenty seven." - ―Rick Flag, Sr. and Elizabeth Bates[src]
Elizabeth Bates began representing Weasel as his attorney at Freedom Project after his incarceration at Belle Reve Correctional Center, legitimately believing her client to be innocent of the child murders he was accused of, and became close to Weasel, visiting him regularly at Belle Reve where she fed him kibble and established a rapport with him. Since Weasel did not have a known name, Bates began referring to him under the pseudonym "John Doe." Bates eventually learned that A.R.G.U.S. Director Amanda Waller had gotten into trouble after being caught using humans as cannon fodder.[1]

Bates confronts John Economos
- "We don't know his real name."
"You don't know his real name because he can't talk." - ―Elizabeth Bates and Rick Flag, Sr.[src]
Following the incidents in Pokolistan caused by Circe threatening to overthrow the Pokolistan royal family, Amanda Waller sent a task force commanded by Rick Flag, Sr. to protect Princess Ilana Rostovic, with John Economos lying to Elizabeth Bates that Weasel was sick so she wouldn't find out he was part of the mission. Three days later, as Economos was serving himself coffee, Bates confronted him asking where Weasel was, threatening to pursue Amanda Waller down for refusing to let Weasel see her.

Bates argues with John Economos
Economos again made excuses by saying that Weasel was sick, which she didn't believe, and continued to interrogate him until she got on his nerves, with Economos claiming to be telling the truth as he walked back to work, Bates then asked him about his leg and he mentioned fighting off an alien invasion, with Bates believing Economos was pulling her leg. They both then saw through the window Task Force M returning from their mission with Weasel on board, with Bates recriminating Economos.

Bates argues with Rick Flag, Sr.
Bates ran to see Weasel, who was overjoyed to see her, but when he tried to go with her the guards restrained him, with Bates quickly ordering him to be released and Weasel eagerly joined Bates, who gave him a kibble. Bates then asked Rick Flag, Sr. where they had taken Weasel, but Flag became confused when Bates used the term "man" on him and asked who she was. Bates introduced herself as Weasel's lawyer representing Freedom Project and showed her business card, which he threw away. When Bates called Weasel "John Doe", throwing him another kibble, Flag told her that they didn't know his real name because he can't talk, warning her that the mission he participated in was classified.

Bates debunks Rick Flag, Sr.'s claims
Bates bluntly claimed that her client was innocent despite Flag prejudging Weasel upon hearing that he had killed 27 children, but Bates corrected Flag, because he was actually accused of killing 8 children and wrongfully sentenced to prison, stating that she had been waiting for him for 3 days, and Flag allowed her to take him into an office, strangely watching Flag's erratic behavior, before giving Weasel another kibble.[1]
Showing Photographs[]

Bates shows photographs to Weasel
In the interrogation cell, Bates sat at a table with Weasel, where she showed him several pictures of the children he was accused of murdering, hoping to get some sort of reaction from him, however he just licked his tongue without paying attention to Bates, causing her frustration, so she snapped her fingers to get his attention. Weasel looked intently at the pictures, sadly staring at the picture of the blonde girl before attempting to eat the image, spitting it out after strangling it. The Belle Reve guards then arrived to warn them that they were running out of time, but Bates promised Weasel that she would find the truth before the guards took him away.[1]
