Emilia Harcourt is an agent of Checkmate, the girlfriend of Peacemaker, a former A.R.G.U.S. agent, the former leader and a founding member of the 11th Street Kids, and a former Task Force X mission coordinator who rebelled against Director Amanda Waller during Project Starfish to save Corto Maltese. As punishment from Waller, Harcourt was sent to join "Clemson Murn"'s special black ops team to stop the Butterflies from taking over Earth. During the mission, Harcourt appeared cold and distant towards Leota Adebayo, as well as the rest of her teammates, but after bonding with them, she learned to open up her emotions and form a close bond with Peacemaker and the rest of the team. After Ik Nobe Llok was killed, Harcourt was chosen as the new leader and led her friends in killing the aliens' Cow, although her hip was severely injured. Following the mission, Harcourt was fired from A.R.G.U.S. after Adebayo revealed Waller and the squad's secret operations.
Being rejected by various agencies, Harcourt suppressed her emotions by fighting in bars and staying away from romantic advances from Smith due to her emotional issues. When Rick Flag, Sr. offered her the chance to return to A.R.G.U.S., Harcourt was forced to capture Smith, but instead of following Flag, Sr.'s orders, she remained loyal to Smith, though he failed to discover the truth in time before fleeing to an alternate universe to pursue a relationship with Harcourt's counterpart. Despite his departure, the 11th Street Kids reunited to bring him back, with Harcourt saving Smith after uncovering that universe's fascist government before escaping. With A.R.G.U.S. becoming increasingly corrupted by Flag, Sr. and LuthorCorp technicians, Harcourt decided to turn against the agency, collaborating with her friends and former A.R.G.U.S. agents. to found Checkmate with the mission of protecting the Earth while she finally opened up her emotions and began a romantic relationship with Smith.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Since childhood, Emilia Harcourt had a complicated relationship with her father. According to Harcourt, she spent her entire life training for a single purpose. Growing up, Harcourt committed her first murder, which caused her to miss a period for three months. Harcourt joined the CIA after graduating high school and spent her entire life working for various intelligence agencies. She eventually joined the DEA,[3] and later the NSA,[4] before being transferred to A.R.G.U.S., where she worked under Amanda Waller.[6]
Relationship with Rick Flag, Jr.[]

During her time as a A.R.G.U.S. agent, Harcourt formed a close friendship with Colonel Rick Flag, Jr., who would become her best friend. Before the Corto Maltese mission in 2022, Harcourt met with Flag, Jr., with whom she had sex at her house, even though he was in a relationship with June Moone at the time. The next morning, Flag, Jr. asked Harcourt to come back to bed, though she denied his request due to their work at A.R.G.U.S.. She mentioned that he should be with Moone, as she wasn't fond of lying, but Flag, Jr. joked about his friend's jealousy and told her of his fears of breaking up with Moone because of her magic powers. He assured Harcourt that he was willing to brave Moone's fury to be with her; however, Harcourt debated with him over not wanting to ruin their friendship. In response, Flag, Jr. insisted that they start a relationship and despite his suggestion, Harcourt asked him to return to work for his flight.[1]
Death of Rick Flag, Jr.[]

During the Task Force X mission in the small island nation of Corto Maltese, Rick Flag, Jr. was killed by Peacemaker in action. While attending Flag, Jr.'s funeral, Harcourt met his father Rick Flag, Sr., sharing their loss and lamenting their shared hatred of Jr.'s killer.[7]

Following the mission in Corto Maltese, Harcourt and John Economos were forced to join "Clemson Murn"'s covert operations team to fight off an alien threat known as Butterflies and prevent them from taking over the world, as punishment from Amanda Waller for betraying her.[7] Economos and Harcourt eventually discovered that Murn was a butterfly named Ik Nobe Llok who wanted to stop his species, although Economos decided to pretend to have no idea.[8]

After Peacemaker's release from the hospital and the recruitment of Leota Adebayo at Waller's request, the team raided Smith's home, and Murn offered him to join the task force in exchange for his freedom, uncomfortably listening to Leota Adebayo introduce herself. During dinner, Harcourt saw Peacemaker arrive and make awkward comments, angering her as she believed Amanda Waller was upsetting them by pairing them with Smith in revenge for betraying her. Harcourt later entered to O'Rourke's Sports Bar, where she was spotted by Smith, who followed her, and Harcourt was forced to fight off some thugs, demonstrating her combat skills in front of Smith. When he attempted to flirt with Harcourt, she dismissed him,[6] Smith told her that she could call him Chris,[4] although she kept rejecting him and walked away.[6]
Escape from Wild Estates Apartment Complex[]
While Harcourt was sleeping in her apartment, she received a call from Peacemaker, learning that Smith had slept with a butterfly and that she had tried to kill him, prompting the police to pursue him. Harcourt immediately dressed and angrily went out to find Smith, accompanied by Leota Adebayo. On the way, Harcourt spoke with Adebayo, where Harcourt was preparing her gun in the car while Adebayo was driving.
Upon arriving at the apartment, Harcourt and Adebayo saw Smith jumping from balconies and a trash can, and to save Smith, Harcourt used a tranquilizer, escaping, and inside the car, the team along with Eagly celebrated their survival. Upon returning to Henenlotter Video, the team disagreed over who the Butterfly could be, believing one of their members to be the snitch and briefly blaming each other. Harcourt explained that it must be Adebayo, but their suspicions about her were dispelled.[9]
Attack on Royland Goff[]
When Murn then gathered the team, he informed them that the target was Senator Royland Goff, a suspected butterfly. Upon arriving at the ranch, Harcourt and Smith saw the Goff family arrive, but since it wasn't convenient to shoot, they had to wait, talking about their childhoods, when Smith asked Harcourt how she got into her line of work, Harcourt counter-questioned him, with Smith admitting it was because of his father. Harcourt realized that she and Smith were not so different, and noticed the humanity inside Smith, and when he was about to say something to her, she restrained him and decided to go to the bathroom.
After Vigilante appeared and was about to kill "Goff," the team was taken by surprise by Judomaster, who knocked out Harcourt and kidnapped Smith and Chase. Harcourt staggered away, seeing a bodyguard pleading with Leota Adebayo not to kill him, despite Harcourt's orders. As Adebayo hesitated to kill him, Harcourt grabbed a gun and shot the bodyguard. Harcourt, Adebayo, and Murn went out to save Smith and Chase, and upon finding the cocoon they were sheltering in, they attempted to blow up the door with a sticky explosive. Meanwhile, Peacemaker broke free and fought "Goff", defeating him, and the team blew up the door, meeting up with Smith and Chase.[3]
Attack on Auggie Smith[]
Upon returning to base, Harcourt got angry with Leota Adebayo for not carrying out the kill on the mission when they needed it reprimanding her and telling her she should never hesitate. Harcourt explained that she must make the difficult decision when necessary, since she doesn't have the opportunity to make the most moral choice, and must make the one that best served the mission.
Using Harcourt's advice, Adebayo manipulated Adrian Chase into killing Christopher's father, Auggie Smith. Harcourt and Adebayo then had another face-to-face meeting, where Harcourt showed some empathy for her, realizing how shocking it was to shoot for the first time and recalling the first time he killed. Confidently, Adebayo confessed to manipulating Chase into killing Smith's father. Murn then berated Adebayo, Harcourt, and Economos, calling them the Apple Dumpling Gang, and demanding to release Chase from prison, but Harcourt grabbed her phone and didn't care about Murn's scold. Later, Harcourt returned to the O'Rourke's Sports Bar, where she was visited by Smith again, who came to ask about his files and Harcourt revealed that the files talk about him being involved with the murder of his brother.[10]
Glan Tai Massacre[]
After discovering a connection between the Glan Tai Bottling Company and the Butterflies, the team met at Henenlotter Video to receive their mission to travel to Glan Tai. Upon arrival, Leota Adebayo and Harcourt played rock, paper, scissors and had to ally with Vigilante, where Harcourt lost. Vigilante showed off his chainsaw, hoping to kill someone, but Harcourt got angry and told him it wasn't practical since they were trying to be stealthy. Once they completed their mission, the team had fun driving home, listening to the “11th Street Kids” and becoming friends, where Harcourt took the opportunity to take a photo. Harcourt later created a chat group named “11th Street Kids,” making the team name official, and sent the photo, which everyone celebrated.[11]
After Leota Adebayo discovered that Murn was a Butterfly, Harcourt talked her into the secret, and they saw John Economos arrive and turn a deaf ear, refusing to acknowledge that he knew the secret. Once Smith and Chase escaped from the police, the team discovered that the Amber Fluid was coming from the Coverdale Ranch, deciding they should check it out. At night, Harcourt carved a peace dove into Peacemaker's gun, and was found by Smith, to whom she gave it, sharing a sentimental conversation where Smith expressed not wanting to kill people but having no problem killing alien insects. Harcourt confessed that she no longer believed Smith was a bad person, revealing that her name was "Emilia."[8]
Fighting Judomaster[]

Discovering that the butterfly-possessed Evergreen Police Department was publicly framing Smith based on a fake diary, Harcourt learned that Adebayo had planted the diary in Smith's house and angrily went to confront her at her apartment, but a frustrated Adebayo claimed she was not fit for spywork and was leaving the team. Harcourt was shocked to discover that Adebayo was Amanda Waller's daughter, and told Murn when he arrived in the room, to which Murn claimed to already know. The butterfly cops then invaded the apartment, where Murn sacrificed himself to save his friends, being killed.
Once the cops left, Harcourt and Adebayo picked him up in his butterfly form, dying in their hands, generating in them a deep sorrow. However, they were caught off guard when Judomaster attacked them, fighting Harcourt until Adebayo knocked him out with a stun gun. Upon recovering, Adebayo continued with her desire to leave as she didn't consider herself fit for spy work, but Harcourt convinced her by saying she was too good for the job.[8]
Battle at Coverdale Ranch[]

At Paws A Moment Veterinary Clinic, the 11th Street Kids regrouped after saving Eagly, reorganizing the team and placing Harcourt as leader, encouraging everyone to complete the mission. Ready to stop the threat, the 11th Street Kids headed to a veterinary van to travel to Coverdale Ranch. Upon arrival, Harcourt saw Peacemaker hallucinating about his father, making him see reason.[12]

After Economos posed as Butterfly to deliver the Sonic Boom helmet to the barn, Adebayo activated it remotely, allowing Harcourt, Smith and Chase to rush to the ranch with weapons and caught the Butterflies off guard, killing several of them, but Chase and Harcourt were soon defeated. Harcourt, about to faint, fell to the ground spitting blood, and seeing her friend in danger, Leota Adebayo summoned the courage to go to the battlefield and confront the Butterflies. After Smith and Adebayo killed the Cow, Smith carefully picked up a fainting Harcourt and the team left for the hospital for treatment,[13] as they left the Justice Gang arrived late for the battle; however, they were scolded by Smith who continued to advance with Harcourt in his arms.[4]

In the following days, Christopher Smith waited for Harcourt to wake up from her coma, hoping she would survive. When Harcourt recovered and woke up from her coma, Chris went to see her on her stretcher, causing Harcourt to shed a tear of joy and extending his hand, which Smith shook. Harcourt struggles to walk again doing rehabilitation exercises, eventually recovering from her hip injury and able to walk again.[13] Following the mission, Harcourt was fired from A.R.G.U.S. after Leota Adebayo publicly exposed Amanda Waller and the Task Force X's secret operations.[4]

On May 22, 2025, Harcourt and Chris Smith went for dinner at Big Belly Burger in Evergreen, Washington. The two discussed Leota Adebayo exposing her mother, Amanda Waller, an act which resulted in Harcourt losing her job at A.R.G.U.S.. Harcourt confessed that she no longer felt “special” now that she was barred from returning to A.R.G.U.S., a point Chris challenged, insisting that her value remained, regardless of her career. At that moment, Maeve arrived with the drinks Smith had ordered. They drank together, and Maeve even joined in.

After sharing six shots together, Harcourt and Chris prepared to leave the burger joint. On their way out, Harcourt was harassed by someone, leaving Chris to interve, lightening the mood as he handled the situation. Just then, Harcourt noticed a nearby entrance to a music cruise, featuring a performance by the hard rock duo Nelson. Harcourt reluctantly joined Chris aboard, once on the cruise, the energy of the crowd and Nelson’s performance of “To Get Back to You” pulled them in. Fueled by the music and a surge of emotion, Harcourt and Chris shared a spontaneous kiss. However, as the moment ended, Harcourt abruptly left, leaving Chris disappointed.[5]

A month later, Harcourt’s psychiatrist diagnosed her with toxic masculinity, which she questioned since she is female. Harcourt grew angry and frustrated by her repeated rejections from various intelligence agencies. Ms. Godfrey escorted her out, attempted to apologize, and expressed gratitude for Harcourt’s contributions to Project Butterfly. Enraged, Harcourt took out her anger by repeatedly punching her car’s dashboard.[4]

- Expert Tactician: Thanks to her background as a CIA and an A.R.G.U.S. agent, Emilia Harcourt has proven to be a skilled leader capable of strategic decisions. During the Butterfly Invasion, she was forced to take the lead of the 11th Street Kids following Murn's death. She improvised a plan to eliminate the Butterflies' cow and gave each member of the team a role to play. She lead the battle of Coverfield Ranch with Peacemaker and Vigilante, and advised Leota Adebayo to stay behind in case one of them was injured. Her fast thinking ability helps her improvise in difficult situations. When she texted Chris to meet with her, she disguised it as a code to tell him that it would be a trap set by A.R.G.U.S. She also quickly subdued him herself to save him from a lethal shot. As the de facto leader of the 11th Street Kids, she's the one making most of the strategic decisions. She ordered John Economos to register Chris in the agency's system; saving him from Rick Flag, Sr.; and took the decision to get him back after he left for an alternate universe.

- Expert Combatant: Through her training years, Harcourt has been taught martial arts by the NSA. Her combat style is a mixed of Sambo, Systema, Kali, and Karate; which proved to be effective enough to hold her ground against more skilled adversaries like Judomaster, even briefly overpowering an injured Judomaster. She was able to face numerous patrons at Gabriel's Horn with a baton, before being defeated only because of their larger number. She also impressively incapacitated Peacemaker to save his life from Sasha Bordeaux, knocking him down and subduing him in a sleeper hold.
- Expert Markswoman: Harcourt is very skilled with firearms. During the battle of Cloverfield Ranch, she gunned down several Butterflies with a shotgun before being injured. When exploring the QUC, she shot numerous Imps attacking her in Candy Land.

- Glock: When searching for a habitable dimension in the QUC, Emilia and the rest of her A.R.G.U.S. team were all equipped with a Glock handgun for defensive purposes. She especially used it to save herself and her team from Imps when visiting Candy Land.
- Collapsible Baton: Harcourt carries in the back of her belt a collapsible baton for self-defense to help her when fighting. She used it to defend herself against numerous patrons at Gabriel's Horns, injuring some, before being overwhelmed and thrown out.
- Walther P99: Harcourt borrowed one of Earth-2's Vigilante's handguns, in an attempt to kill Keith Smith in order to make sure he wouldn't follow him.

- Henenlotter Video: The 11th Street Kids used an abandoned video store in Evergreen, Washington, known as Henenlotter Video, as their headquarters for Project Butterfly.
- Apartment: Harcourt rents an apartment in Evergreen, Washington. She was behind on rent payments due to being unemployed following Project Butterfly.
- Checkmate Headquarters: After she helped Leota Adebayo and Sasha Bordeaux combine their ideas to create the Checkmate agency, she arranged a facility as their headquarter with the rest of her colleagues and friends.

- In the comics, Emilia Harcourt was a Russo-American A.R.G.U.S. agent who monitored Amanda Waller and the Task Force X. She was later revealed to be a spy for The People. After Waller's death by Deadshot, Harcourt took control of America's military. In fact, it was all part of Waller's plan. After being resurrected by the Enchantress, Waller killed Harcourt via Captain Boomerang. She was later revived by Waller using the Lazarus Pit and gained superpowers.

- Emilia Harcourt in the DC Universe continues the alternate incarnation of the character from the DC Extended Universe, who was also portrayed by Jennifer Holland.
- Harcourt's character design for the season was built partly around the Capture of Peacemaker, as Jennifer Holland insisted on Harcourt having more muscle mass for the season for when she tackles Chris Smith.[17]
