Peacemaker and Vigilante fighting together against Butterflies in Evergreen
Chris Smith developed a commitment to peace while growing up in Evergreen, becoming the violent vigilante Peacemaker, not caring how many people he had to kill in the process. Adrian Chase also became a violent vigilante known as Vigilante, dedicating himself to killing criminal gangs in Evergreen, engaged in drug trafficking, murder, graffiti, and drivers who failed to renew their licenses, hiding his identity by working at Fennel Fields as a busboy, believing it was a deceptive job. The two eventually met becoming friends, usually working together.[1] Evergreen once suffered an alien invasion, which was defeated. Anthony Scarapelli eventually organized a big catering event at Fennel Fields, as he planned to convince investors to finance his film so he could retire from the mob.[2]

Vigilante breaks into a meeting between Evergreen gangs
Eventually, Peacemaker tracked down the Nazi Lizards, successfully killing them, and upon returning home, Smith and Eagly decided to take a vacation to Alaska. Later, renowned Evergreen gangster, Anthony Scarapelli, arranged an informal meeting with Ms. Withers at the head of Axe Me Again, seeking to forge an alliance between criminal gangs, however, they were suddenly ambushed by Vigilante, forcing them to cancel the meeting and escape. Vigilante then discovered Smith was gone and contacted him believing he was in danger, but Smith tricked him into believing he had been kidnapped by the Controller.

Vigilante attacks Evergreen Docks
As a result, Vigilante began his search for the Controller to rescue Peacemaker and attacked a Withering Heights Nursing Home guard, tearing his face off while vowing to find the Controller's army of robots across Evergreen.[1] Withers was informed of the incident and met with Anthony Scarapelli, ultimately agreeing to retaliate against Vigilante with a scorched earth policy. Anthony Scarapelli planned to give away the vehicles his gang stole at Evergreen Docks, wanting to leave crime, however, they were ambushed by Vigilante to wipe out what he believed was the Controller's army, catching Withers and Anthony Scarapelli off guard. Cannon and Saber apprehended him, but Vigilante managed to escape,[3] and the police department went to investigate, assuming it was a gang massacre but unable to understand the reason.

Vigilante fights against Withers in Fennel Fields
At Fennel Fields, Theresa told Adrian Chase about the investor catering event, making him worry that the Controller planned to turn them all into machines, convincing himself to stop the meeting. When the catering event began, Anthony Scarapelli announced his intention to retire from the mob, but Vigilante caught him off guard by throwing a bodyguard out the window in an attempt to defeat him whom he believed had a link to the Controller, only to end up in a confrontation against Withers, who inquired as to how Vigilante had become convinced of the Controller's deception. Withers made Vigilante realize about the deception, and was knocked out by Anthony Scarapelli, but when they set out to kill him, they had to flee from the police. Vigilante woke up and Theresa helped him escape through the back alley.[2]
