The Evergreen Police Department (EPD) was the primary municipal police force responsible for law enforcement and investigation in Evergreen.

History[]

Butterfly Invasion[]

The department became involved in the case of Annie Sturphausen, a woman murdered at an apartment complex following an explosion. Detectives Sophie Song and Larry Fitzgibbon were assigned to the investigation. Noting that a car was registered to Auggie Smith, the duo questioned him at his home, where he refused to answer. The duo, however, gathered enough evidence to arrest Auggie Smith and take him to prison. Unbeknownst to the department, Sturphausen had been hosting an alien butterfly, and the 11th Street Kids secretly framed Auggie to prevent Peacemaker from being arrested.

When Auggie Smith learned from his son Chris that he had been framed, he went to Detective Song to tell her and demanded that his fingerprints be run. Song and Larry Fitzgibbon, with the assistance of Officer Peggy Sacks, analyzed the evidence to obtain Smith's fingerprints, only to discover they were not his and that Auggie was right. Seeing the operation in jeopardy, A.R.G.U.S. manipulated local authorities to demote Miele from his position as captain and hand him over to Caspar Locke, who would go undercover for Amanda Waller and secretly assist Clemson Murn. When Detective Sophie Song contacted Locke, he was skeptical and attempted to manipulate Song into dropping the investigation. Rather than feeling threatened, Song went to see her uncle, Judge William Judy, to obtain an arrest warrant for Peacemaker.

With the warrant, Song released Auggie Smith and mobilized the police to arrest Chris Smith in his trailer. However, Vigilante and Peacemaker escaped through the roof, climbing into the trees, where Vigilante fell, breaking a jar containing the alien butterfly Eek Stack Ik Ik, which killed Song and took her as its host. Smith and Chase escaped through the woods, where they were surrounded by police officers, but Locke shot them in cold blood, getting Smith and Chase out of trouble by giving him car keys. Locke killed the officers without compassion, and when he was found by "Song" and Larry Fitzgibbon, he lied and framed McDonald's character Hamburglar.

Caspar Locke came into possession of a fake diary framing Peacemaker, and at night, Eek Stack Ik Ik and his army of Butterflies invaded the police department, attacking both officers and prisoners inside the station, infecting them, and taking their bodies as hosts. As they left, the Butterflies shared a maniacal laugh, and upon finding Smith's fake diary, used it to publicly incriminate him and justify his arrest. During the final phase of the conflict, the butterfly possessed EPD coordinated efforts to protect the Cow, their food source, hidden beneath a nearby farm. However, their plans were foiled when the 11th Street Kids attacked the site and killed the Cow, cutting off the Butterflies’ supply of Amber Fluid.[1]

Chris Smith's Incarceration[]

Chris Smith was arrested by A.R.G.U.S. and turned over to the Evergreen Police Department to be held at Evergreen Corrections Center. Smith was only held there briefly until Leota Adebayo paid his bail and Smith was released.[2]
