"Is that a groundhog?"

Georgie attended Sunnyhill School. One day after school, Georgie played soccer with some of his classmates. He saw two of his classmates approach a bush, so he went over to look as one of the students asked if what they were looking at was a groundhog. However, Georgie looked at the creature, Weasel, and corrected him, saying that it was too big to be a groundhog. Georgie then watched closely as his two classmates fed Weasel, coaxing him out from behind the bushes. Georgie and several other students at the school became friends with Weasel, enjoying playing with him.[1]

Death[]

"Georgie, dork."
―Student to Georgie[src]

The day before Thanksgiving break, Georgie enjoyed playing a game in which they kept a ball away from Weasel. One of Georgie's friends noticed that the back door to Sunnyhill School had been left open, so Georgie and the others all went inside. They went into their classroom, and Georgie looked on happily as one of the students found their teacher's grade book. Another friend of Georgie's took a bottle of alcohol from the desk and played with it, pretending to be drunk, which made Georgie laugh. Georgie then went outside the room and looked through an open locker.

A young girl threw a ball into the boiler room for Weasel, and Georgie rushed to the door to the room as Weasel retrieved it. Georgie took the alcohol and used it as a baseball bat while someone threw a paper ball to him. However, his friend accidentally hit Georgie with the paper ball on one throw, causing him to drop the alcohol, which broke on the floor right as another friend of his was playing with matches they had found. The alcohol caught fire, and one of Georgie's classmates insulted him. However, Georgie and his friends proceeded to continue playing with Weasel. Georgie then watched with fear as an old man entered the boiler room with a shotgun and pointed it at Weasel. The man fired at Weasel, but hit the boiler, which combined with the fire to create a large explosion that killed Georgie and his friends.[1]

Legacy[]

Weasell tries to save the children

Weasel is blamed for Georgie's death

Members of the local police department had arrived shortly before the explosion and found a window to the boiler room, where they saw Weasel surrounded Georgie's body and those of his other friends, carrying the one student who had survived the explosion. Believing Weasel to be responsible for his deaths, the police began shooting him as Weasel tried to take the girl to safety. Weasel was arrested, making him unable to save the girl. He was charged with killing Georgie and the other kids and held in Belle Reve Correctional Center. Believing him to be innocent, Elizabeth Bates tried to get Weasel to share about the kids with her, but was unable to due to Weasel's mental condition. Georgie's death stuck with Weasel emotionally, and he remembered their time together in his dreams.[1]

Personality[]

Georgie was a high spirited child who enjoyed playing with his friends and with Weasel. Unlike other classmates, Georgie showed no reservations against entering the school when they were not supposed to. He was also quick to correct one of his classmates on Weasel's species, despite not knowing what it was himself.
