The Green Lantern Corps are an intergalactic peacekeeping organization founded by the ancient Guardians of the Universe, comprised of beings selected across the universe dubbed Green Lanterns, wielding immensely powerful devices powered by their willpower called Power Rings and serving as intergalactic law enforcement governing the various space sectors of the galaxy, including the space sector containing Earth.

At some point in his life, Guy Gardner was recruited to be part of the Green Lantern Corps, which led him to agree to an oath not to interfere in conflicts between nations of Earth, receiving a Power Ring to utilize its powers. Gardner was assigned the Green Lantern protector of Sector 2814 and performed heroic missions to protect the planet, being recruited by billionaire Maxwell Lord to join the Justice Gang, which Gardner named and proclaimed himself the leader.[1]
