The Hob's Bay Riots were the result of increased tension between immigrants and second-generation citizens of the city of Metropolis.
Background[]
- "The mid-1800s saw the Hob's Bay area of the city grow as a merchant center."

De Vries Village was founded in 1634, although it eventually grew to become a large city known as Metropolis, where many would immigrate. Second-generation citizens of Metropolis began to take pride in their city of birth as its residents continued technological advancement, leading to resentment toward immigrants who entered the city. As the Hob's Bay area became a merchant center, Metropolis saw a significant increase in Irish immigration.[1]
Riots[]
As tensions increased between second-generation Metropolis citizens and Irish immigrants, a series of riots broke out in the Hob's Bay Area's merchant center. The riots were large enough to gather significant attention and became known as the "Hob's Bay Riots."[1]
Aftermath[]
The Hob's Bay Riots went down in history as a result of the tensions which had developed between second generation Metropolis citizens and Irish immigrants, and the city continued to grow and develop. However, it did not forget the riots and considered it an important part of the history of the development of Hob's Bay as a merchant center and the city as a whole. The riots were described on an information history sign displayed in Metropolis.[1]
