The House of El was a Kryptonian family that once resided on the planet Krypton. The last known surviving members of this family were Kal-El, known to the people of Earth as Superman, and Kara Zor-El, known as Supergirl before they were killed by Ilana Rostovic and her forces.

In a dark potential future, Princess Ilana Rostovic along with her Amethyst Knights conquered Earth and transformed it into an apocalyptic wasteland. A massive conflict began between the superheroes and Rostovic's forces, but Superman and Supergirl somehow died in the process. During Amanda Waller's encounter with Circe, she showed the disturbing vision of a bloodied Superman being strapped to a cross, an impaled Supergirl, and the impaled bodies of various other heroes.[1]
