- "Ivan helped."
"Oh! What did Ivan do?"
"He was quiet. It was good." - ―Eric Frankenstein and Bogdana[src]
Ivan is the pet dog of Bogdana and Eric Frankenstein.
Biography[]
Ivan was the pet of the peasant Bogdana, living with her in the countryside, one morning in 1831 while accompanying Bogdana, Ivan found a creature fainted on the banks of the river which sniffed and barked to get Bogdana's attention. The woman saw the monster and noticed that it had signs of life, so Ivan bit her coat to carry it back to the cabin. At night while he slept, Bogdana began to heal the beast's wounds with healing ointments, but upon hearing it wake up, Ivan woke up to bark intimidatingly at him, until Bogdana ordered him to stop, going back to sleep.
One morning, Ivan saw Bogdana pulling the crops, noticing that Eric Frankenstein was healing his wounds, and while Eric talked to Bogdana, he cut an apple for Ivan to eat. Bogdana and Ivan became increasingly happy since Frankenstein came into their lives. One day, Ivan accompanied Frankenstein on a turkey hunt, with Frankenstein helping out by staying quiet when Frankenstein killed the turkey, and then returning to the cabin with Bogdana, where Frankenstein acknowledged Ivan's help to Bogdana, congratulating him while petting him.
One night, Eric Frankenstein locked the cabin door, leaving Ivan outside to talk to Bogdana alone as he did not think Ivan would understand, telling her that he wanted to leave the cabin to go find the Bride, despite Bogdana's pleas not to, while Ivan slashed at the door trying to get in. Unbeknownst to Ivan, Frankenstein killed Bogdana with a pot, and when Frankenstein left the cabin, he whistled for Ivan to come with him, with Ivan happily following him into the woods.[1]
