Jor-El was the patriarch of the House of El and the husband of Lara Lor-Van. He was the father of Kal-El, the brother of Zor-El, and the paternal uncle of Kara Zor-El. He sent Kal-El to Earth to save him from the destruction of Krypton.

- In the comics, Jor-El was a Kryptonian scientist, the husband of Lara Lor-Van, and the father of Kal-El. He predicted the destruction of Krypton but was unable to convince the Kryptonian High Council.
