- In the comics, Lex Luthor is a well known as a brilliant scientist, a billionaire industrialist, and Superman's greatest enemy.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Lex Luthor in the DC Universe is the eleventh live-action incarnation of the character, following incarnations portrayed by Lyle Talbot, Gene Hackman, Scott James Wells/Sherman Howard, John Shea, Michael Rosenbaum, Kevin Spacey, Jesse Eisenberg, Jon Cryer, Michael Cudlitz, and Titus Welliver.
- Nicholas Hoult originally auditioned for the role of Superman before landing the part of Lex Luthor.[2]
- Anthony Carrigan at one point expressed interest in portraying Lex Luthor. He was ultimately cast as Metamorpho instead.[3]
- Nicholas Hoult was inspired by Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex Luthor in the WB series Smallville, and chose to work out for the role based on the version of Luthor in the comic book All-Star Superman.[4]
- According to James Gunn, the inspirations for this version of Lex were "All-Star Superman", Brian Azzarello's limited comic book series Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (2005), and the reckless scientific genius version of Luthor from the 1950's and '60's comic books written by Jerry Siegel.[5]
- Aaron Matthews was a stunt double for Nicholas Hoult in the role of Lex Luthor.
