Desperate to find Superman after he had escaped from the Pocket Universe, Lex Luthor created a dimensional rift that began to tear its way through Metropolis, despite Sydney Happersen's warnings. As the rift neared LuthorCorp Tower, Luthor gave the command to Otis Berg to launch the communications hub into the air, detaching itself from the tower.

In a desperate attempt to track down Peacemaker and his interdimensional portal, Rick Flag, Sr. sought out the assistance of Lex Luthor, who directed him to Sydney Happersen and the communications hub. Happersen was transported from his prison to where the communications hub was being held, and met with Flag and Sasha Bordeaux. Happersen sat at his bay, and used his equipment to quickly pinpoint the location of the portal in Evergreen.[2]

After obtaining the Quantum Unfolding Chamber Access Device, the Communications Hub was reactivated to become the base of operations for investigating the Quantum Deployment Chamber. A portal opened in a doorway near the hub, and Rick Flag, Sr. was assisted by various Lex Luthor employees, while A.R.G.U.S. agent were used as scapegoats inside the chamber to investigate different dimensions behind closed doors. John Economos and Sasha Bordeaux monitored from a workstation outside the portal, though no technological communication could be sent from the other side.

While searching for a habitable dimension, the agents encountered numerous dangerous locations, resulting in the deaths of several agents, including Kline. Despite Bordeaux's concerns about the sacrifices made at the QUC, Flag ignored the tragic events and celebrated the progress of the investigation with Luthor's technicians. Eventually, the agents found Salvation, a dimension that met their requirements, and Harcourt reported the findings to Flag, ending the explorations. Seeking to use Salvation as a prison to incarcerate dangerous metahumans, Rick Flag Sr. sent A.R.G.U.S. agents to kidnap Chris Smith and bring him to the warehouse, planning to lock him up on the planet under the guise of being a test subject, leaving him stranded.[3]
