Production[]

In June 2025, Superman writer and director James Gunn said he had begun writing a follow-up to Superman that would not be a direct sequel, but would feature Superman in a major role.[11][12]

On August 7, 2025, David Zaslav confirmed that Gunn was writing and directing the next film in the "Super-Family", which Gunn said he had finished writing a script treatment for.[13]

On September 3, 2025, Gunn revealed that a film titled Man of Tomorrow would release on July 9, 2027. The announcement was made using an illustration depicting Superman next to Lex Luthor.[2] David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Isabela Merced, who portrayed Superman, Luthor, and Hawkgirl, respectively in the previous film, teased that they will be reprising the roles on Instagram.[6][7][9]

On September 5, 2025, Gunn revealed Lois Lane will have an important role in the film, seemingly confirming Rachel Brosnahan's return as the character.[8]

On September 10, 2025, Gunn revealed that it is as much of a Lex Luthor movie as it is a Superman movie, saying “It's a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat.”[14][15]

On September 26, 2025, Gunn seemingly confirmed on The Morning After Pod that Frank Grillo would reprise the role of Rick Flag, Sr. in the film.[10]
