Max, formerly known as HBO Max, is a subscription-based streaming service owned by Warner Bros. Discovery (formerly WarnerMedia) that launched on May 27, 2020. It is the exclusive home for DC Universe media.

On October 10, 2018, WarnerMedia announced plans to launch a new over-the-top streaming service in late 2019, featuring content from its various entertainment brands. The initial strategy included three tiers, with HBO branding to be utilized, allowing HBO cable subscribers access to the service. A beta version was expected in late 2019, followed by a full launch in early 2020.
In May 2019, Otter Media was reassigned to oversee the streaming service, with Andy Forssell replacing Brad Bentley as general manager. On July 9, 2019, the service was named HBO Max, set to launch in spring 2020, and included production deals with Hello Sunshine and Greg Berlanti. WarnerMedia confirmed the official launch date for HBO Max as May 27, 2020, and introduced the Warner Max film label to produce mid-budget movies for the platform.
However, by October 2020, WarnerMedia decided to consolidate the Warner Max label into the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, streamlining film production under the leadership of Toby Emmerich and his team.
