Metropolis, formerly known as De Vries Village and nicknamed the City of Tomorrow, is a major city in the state of Delaware and is protected by the superhero Superman.
History[]
Foundation[]
In 1634, the area of present-day Metropolis was settled by Dutch settlers, led by a Dutchman named Paul De Vries. He established a village and named it De Vries Village. The village began to prosper due to its location near a natural coastal harbor, allowing the settlers easy access to trade.[2] The city was renamed Metropolis in the 1640s.[3][4]
Becoming the City of Tomorrow[]
Growth[]
Overtime, the village grew in population and size. The land formerly known as De Vries Village took on the name "Old City" in an area that became known as Queensland Park. The city developed several other neighborhoods, including Downtown District and a neighborhood directly surrounding Hob's Bay. In 1783, P. Randall Jeffries opened the First Metropolitan Bank.
In the mid-1800s, the Hob's Bay Area saw an influx in Irish immigrants which occurred simultaneously with the area's growth as a merchant center. Tensions began to rise between the immigrants and the city's second-generation residents, leading to a series of riots that became known as the Hob's Bay Riots.[2]
Industrial Revolution[]
During the American Industrial Revolution, Metropolis saw the founding of The Steel Works, a company which allowed Metropolis to prosper and continue innovating. People continued to innovate in Metropolis and developed a reputation as a beacon of hope, earning it the nickname "City of Tomorrow."[2]
Capture of Nina Mazursky[]
Following the rumors surrounding the Star City Sea Creature, animal control experts from Metropolis and Bludhaven were called in to track down the creature, which was captured and imprisoned in Belle Reve Correctional Center.[5]
Circe's Arrest[]

Krypto repairs the dog run
- "Our ladders can't reach that far up!"
"Not to worry, chief. After all, I specialize in heights." - ―Farrell and Superman[src]
Superman took Krypto to Centennial Park to play with other dogs, meeting Curt and his dog Otto. However, Superman suddenly heard an explosion coming from S.T.A.R. Labs and stopped a fire ambulance from crashing into them. As the dogs had fled due to the chaos, Superman asked Krypto to help him control the dogs while he tended to the fire at S.T.A.R. Labs and then assist him there. Krypto then repaired the pen with his superpowers and flew over the park, finding the lost dogs and guiding them back to their owners, and saving Rocky the dog from a tall rock.

Meanwhile, the Metropolis Fire Department intervened to stop the fire, successfully evacuating all but the top floor, where the fire was contained, Superman then arrived and Chief Farrell informed him of the situation. Superman used his X-rays to see that there were two scientists trapped on the 14th floor trying to contain the experiment, but that it had gotten out of control. Superman flew to the floor to rescue the scientists, lifting them to the ground, while Krypto rescued the dog Matty. An hour after putting out the fire with his super breath, Krypto and Superman took the scientist and Matty to the park to hang out after a tiring afternoon.[7]
