"G.I. Robot, at attention, sir! And your name and rank, sir?"
"I'm... I'm, uh, Sam. Sam Fitzgibbon. I'm just a guy. No rank. I wanted to join up, you know, I really did, but this damn leg. Pleased to meet you, friend."

Sometime during the 2000s, in Hub City, Sam Fitzgibbon visited a World War II memorabilia store, where he became intrigued by an inactive G.I. Robot. The owner, Justin, explained that after the war, the robot had been transferred from lab to lab before eventually ending up in the hands of various collectors. Captivated, Sam purchased G.I. Robot and brought him home.

There, he fueled the robot with diesel to reactivate him and quickly bonded with his new companion. Sam introduced G.I. Robot to his cats and proudly shared his collection of World War II memorabilia. Later, the two sat together watching TV while having dinner, with Sam reflecting on how good it felt to finally have a sense of family.[1]

One day, Sam dressed G.I. Robot before heading outside, despite the robot's insistence that he couldn’t catch a cold. Sam simply replied, "You never know for sure". During the car ride, Sam explained that they were going to visit "a few friends" who were determined to restore the country to what it once was. He complimented his metallic companion, calling him a good man, which made G.I. Robot reflect on the phrase his Easy Company comrades used to say about him: "Cheers to the Tin Man!"

Upon arriving at the Hub National Socialists Club, Sam introduced G.I. Robot to his friend and the group’s leader, Billy, explaining that the robot’s help could be valuable for their cause. However, shortly after the meeting began, G.I. Robot noticed a swastika and immediately recognized the group as neo-Nazis, triggering his programming. Before Sam could react, G.I. Robot shot him in the head and proceeded to gun down the rest of the attendees in a bloody massacre. This event led to the robot's arrest and eventual sentencing to Belle Reve.[1]

Personality[]

As a neo-Nazi, Sam held fascistic beliefs and avidly collected many of their memorabilia. Outwardly however, Sam appeared to be friendly as he took care of multiple cats at his home and upon purchasing G.I. Robot from Justin, grew quickly found of the automated man, appreciating his company. Despite these traits, he was opportunistic and ignorant on his history, as he assumed G.I. Robot would a useful asset for his neo-Nazi group, not realizing that G.I. Robot was created to kill Nazis
