Trivia[]
- In the comics, Supergirl is Superman’s older cousin. Born as Kara Zor-El, the only daughter of Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, she was sent to Earth in a rocket just before the destruction of her home planet Krypton to protect her younger cousin Kal-El. However, the rocket traveled more slowly, and she arrived on Earth decades after Superman landed, resulting in Kal-El growing into adulthood faster as Superman, donning a similar costume as Supergirl and assuming the human civilian identity Linda Danvers.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the DC Universe is the fifth live-action incarnation of the character, following incarnations portrayed by Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, Melissa Benoist, and Sasha Calle.
- Previous Supergirl actress Sasha Calle originally signed a multi-picture deal to reprise the role in other films. However these appearances were scrapped after the DC Universe was announced to be replacing the DC Extended Universe.[3]
- Sasha Calle admitted to being disappointed with the studio's decision to recast the role.[3] However she did express support over the casting of Milly Alcock in the role.[4]
- Meg Donnelly auditioned for the role before Milly Alcock was chosen.[5]
- Meg Donnelly previously voiced a version of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the Tomorrowverse film series.
- According to James Gunn, Milly Alcock was his first choice for the role, saying “I was watching House of the Dragon & thought she might have the edge, grace & authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl. And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes."[6]
