- In the comics, Swamp Thing is a mutated humanoid plant creature who tasks himself with protecting The Green, an elemental force which connects all plant life on planet Earth. He absorbed the memories and personality of Alec Holland, a botanist who died in a swamp shortly after creating a hormonal Bio-Restorative Formula for plants.
