- "I thought Congress put a stop to all Task Force X activities since your daughter outed you."
- ―Rick Flag, Sr. to Amanda Waller[src]
Task Force X, unofficially nicknamed the Suicide Squad[1], was a government-sanctioned black-ops unit team founded by Amanda Waller consisting of prisoners with superhuman characteristics. After Project Starfish, the United States Congress halted all future operations and decommissioned the team and outlawed the exploitation of human subjects, leading to the formation of the Creature Commandos.
History[]
Project Starfish[]
Disastrous Consequences[]
Amanda Waller assembled a team to go to Corto Maltese to destroy all evidence of Project Starfish. Upon reaching the island, Weasel drowned, and the rest of the team believed that he died. During a mission, Rick Flag, Jr. was betrayed and killed by Peacemaker, and was later revealed that Weasel actually survived and was eventually incarcerated again.[2]
Shut Down By Congress[]
Eventually, Waller's daughter Leota Adebayo made her underhanded operations with Task Force X publicly known, discrediting Waller's reputation. As a result of Waller being exposed, the United States Congress forced A.R.G.U.S. to stop all activities on humans subjects. However, she took advantage of a legal loophole and created Task Force M, consisting of non-human prisoners.[2]

Trivia[]
- In the comics, Task Force X, commonly known as the Suicide Squad, is a covert team of imprisoned supervillains forced by the government to carry out deadly missions in exchange for reduced sentences. The team operates under the command of Amanda Waller, who uses their criminal records as leverage to ensure compliance.
- In the DC Extended Universe, a second incarnation of Task Force X led by Rick Flag, Jr. performed a covert assignment on Corto Maltese, where they were responsible for quelling a government insurrection and destroying the fortified research facility Jotunheim, which contained illegally experiments involving a captured extraterrestrial creature known as "Starro." Weasel was displaced from his unit, and Peacemaker ultimately betrayed and killed Flag, who threatened to leak the US government's involvement. Task Force X and Waller's involvement was publicly exposed by her daughter Leota Adebayo.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Task Force X's activities in the DC Universe infers their prior history in the DC Extended Universe, specifically referencing the events of The Suicide Squad, and the first season of the television series Peacemaker, both of which were written and produced by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran respectively.
